[:1]hey guys
I'm making a smiter at the moment. What should I have his helm, shako or andy's? I was also thinking of that guill's helm cause of crushing blow. But I have a spare shako and andy helm, and was wondering what you guys think would be best.
By the way, for his shield. Until I can get my hands on a exile, do you think I should use my spirit shield or do you think I should invest in a HoZ?
My smiter's is a uber trister btw.
Thank You!|||Depends on the rest of your gear. Assuming Gore Riders for boots and no other source of CB, Guillaume's Face for helm. If you have another source(s) of CB and are at ~50%, Shako would probably be better. Andy's doesn't offer a lot for Ubers unless you need the extra IAS.
Unless you plan on using the Paladin for something other than Ubers, I wouldn't spend resources on HoZ if you are only going to replace it down the road.|||Hey thanks for the reply
Anyways this is my gear at the moment.
Andy's. 135 ed/10 life steal/27str
highlords
Crescent moon runeword
Duriel's shell, 174 ed.
191 ed up'd hoz, with a um rune.
8life/104ed/15str dracs
168/20 ravenfrost
242/17 ravenfrost
verdungos 111ed,35+vita,13 damage red.
goblin toe.
My res is 0/66/70/85. fire/cold/light/psn.
Not the worst setup IMO, but do you think id be able to mini uber(have keysets) and uber trist or wait a bit till i get more res?|||Yes, you should be fine doing the miniubers, but wait a while if you want to do the actual prime ubers. Andys/highlords/crescent will help a lot with killing their minions but not the actual ubers themselves. Good luck.|||im a bit nervous entering into mini uber haha.
is my res okay? My main concern is the minions, not the bosses. Life tap should cover the bosses.
Btw, i'm a 1pt smiter. i maxed zeal and now pumping sacrifice. Got fanta and holy shield maxed out too. My smite dmg is around 1.3k.|||Hi
If it were me I would *really* want to get my res maxed especially the fire. I dont think 0 will gut it. If you havent put a ral in the andy hat do so asap and while it nice hat I gully hat (Um'ed if possible if not then ral or ort depending on ur weakest resist of the two) will actually do you better.
Duriel shell never gets enough love imo. It is a perfectly acceptable endgame general purpose armor, especially up'ed. However for a smiter whose main job will be uber running it's not ideal. Ravenfrost is covering cbf so I would look for best elite white armor I could find and cube em for sockets. If you get 3 sockets then duress would be ideal but if not even lionheart would serve you better in UT. if it gets two I would even prefer a smoke over duri shell to UT *especially if my resist arent maxed.
You only need 1 ravenfrost for cbf. SO keep 1 u like best and use the other slot for best res ring you can find (life and mana leech can be helpful for general questing and minions but not essential if your not having leeching problems.
Crescent moon is nice sword for running mini's but for ubers to kill em- *especially* mephy --asap you even a black flail would do better.
For me *biggest* concern is mephy and his PITA level 20 conviction. That's a -125 to your most important resists. Two ways to handle it are a) get your own conviction that is at least level 21. If your conviction is higher than his then his wont affect you.
Second is too load up on enough resists to make sure youre covered under his convition. I prefer doing that since it saves having to load points in2 conviction. With that in mind I tend to favor using an elite 40 plus res all elite pally shield with 4 pdiamonds. Dracs has lifetap covered and 4 pdiamonds in a 40 res all shiled = 116 res all. That plus gear and anya rewards makes it easy to cover your resists using charms and if necessary a few points in salvation a LOT less than would be needed to go the conviction route (and a bit more party friendly since doing the conviction thing ONLY helps you while running salvation while mephy is alive helps everybody)
As for kill points. Crecent moon has ignore target defense and smite doesnt use attack rating at all. So really maxing zeal is a bit unnecessary. Enough points in zeal to make sure you get maximum hits is all you really want. You can max sacrfice for the damage. Then use points you would have put in zeal to either pump smite or (and this would be my reccomendation) add em into resist lighting. Every 2 hard points you put in their raises your max lightning cap plus 1. Which is helpful cuz uber mephy has very dangerous lightning attack and 9/10 thats whats gonna kill you. So if you can find the points 10 will get your lightning res to max of 80 and full 20 will get you to 85 (just make sure you got enuff resists to hold the max under his convcition or otherwise then those points will be kinda wasted)
In fact I get so paranoid about mephy's lightning I actually prefer tgods over vergudo belt for UT. With tgods and 20 points in resist lightning (again assuming you made sure you put in enough resists to cover it) you will have 95 resist lightning plus 20 lightning absorb. Using tgods also gives you option for skipping 20 points in resist lightning since belt alone will raise your lr max to 85%. If you're happy with 85% you could put the points in smite or if you must, zeal, or you could even put em in resist fire to give you 85 fires resist to go with your 85 lightning resist.
Other things you might want to consider is get your fhr to at least 48 and hopefully 86 if possible which shouldnt be too difficult depending on gear since a lot of the best choices for running UT tend have a lot of fhr in them already.
And if you havent already, look up walk throughs to learn how to go into UT and wake up the ubers one by one starting with mephy first. (that 9/10 thing I was talking bout b4 --ppl waking em all up at once and getting swamped would be the 10th hehe) Thats really the biggest key to safe, easy UT run. Kill mephy and his PITA conviction aura first and as fast as possible and then rest is easy peasy.
Kaytie|||KaytieKat raises some good points, however, due to personal opinions, I would rather recommend:
- Have one point in Salvation, with plus skills it would grant you +88% All Resistances.
- Make the runeword Treachery. This runeword is cheap, and I would recommend making it on any armor you can wear. When you get hit with this on, you have a 5% Chance to Cast Level 15 Fade, which grants you 15%DR, 79% Reduced Curse Duration, and most importantly +60% All Resistances.
- As KaytieKat mentions, replace your 17dex ring. Dexterity>AR in my opinion, and since you have one with perfect Dex, why not? I suggest a dual leech ring if you can find one, if not I'd go for a mana leech ring or Bul-Katho's if you can get it.
- Get as much +X% All Resistances small charms as you can. Grand charms work too, and small charms with +4 or +5% All Resistances shouldn't be that hard to find. Best of all, you don't have to sacrifice equipment choices for resistances.
- If you don't have a Call to Arms, it would definitely be a priority for you to acquire one, even though it costs an Ohm and an Ist.
- As for Andariel's Visage, it is indeed great, with life leech, Increased Attack Speed, and +X To All Skills. And yes you should put a Ral rune in it as soon as possible.
The mini ubers are not as hard as it sounds... maybe for a sorceress, but a paladin with enough life leech and a Chance to Cast Life Tap should survive the uber's minions with not much problems.|||Hi
Yeah treachery can be helpful. What a lot of ppl like to do is before going done in2 UT is put it on then get the fade to go off then swicth back to whatever armor they use regularly. The fade should last long enough to do eal with mephy if you get him to come out first and then its a matter of taste and how your resistances are after mephy's conviction is taken out. Some go back to town and refresh fade some dont.
Best (in other words quickest) way to do it is if you have someone who can teleport find some place with a fire to stand in. Countess's firewall or those bodies surrounded by fire up at top of cat 4 are good places. Just go stand in it and fade should kick in relatively quickly. If not I would go to cold plains and find a fallen camp and let the fallen leaders pelt u with fireballs until it goes off. Personally thats way to much of a headache to deal :P with but ymmv.
Now for full disclosure this is from someone how put a CtA on switch for her UT smiter. I wouldnt call CtA crucial. More of a luxury than a necessity but if you can get the runes there are worse things you could do with them
I cant speak from experince on smites with mini ubers since I prefer to do em with my Kicker. (She gets the organs then makes UT portal then hands off to smiter for UT) But now that IM isnt an issue a smiter shouldnt have too much diff. The hardest will be miniAndy she hits hard, her posion is a PITA and if she has witches around her it can get hairy if you dont watch it.
miniDuriel should be a pice of cake. There CAN be some PI's in his realm which can cause problems for a smiter but *usually* Duriel is so close to portal that u can get to him without needing to deal with anything else down there. And minidurel himself is nothing special-- against any halfway decent smiter he should be face down faster than Lindsay Lohan at an open bar.
MiniIzzy just kind of depends. No IM means it is a gazillion times less dangerous and Izzy himself isnt all that hard BUT he can teleport. And crowd control is one of the weaknesses of a smiter. So if he teleports in2 a rather nasty crowd or near OK's who then decrep you or something it COULD get a little troublesome. But if you know that going in and are ready to deal with it then it shouldnt be anything you cant handle.
Kaytie|||Thanks for the detailed responses guys! I will take not of them.
I have beat uber trist though, it was a bit hard with my 'weak' setup. I'll look into these to better my ubering experience. Thanks!|||one quick note. a simple way to help you last a bit longer is to drop Duriel's shell, and try to make a duress out of a elite armor that you can wear.
also try dropping verdungos, for t-gods. the light absorb will help more than you think against mephy.
