[:1]I'm relatively new to the game and I guess I don't yet understand what to look for as far as gear. I was talking to another paladin online today and he was telling me that azurewrath is way better than the lightsaber I am using. While I have heard that azurewrath is better, I am unable to see it. It seems that the fact that lightsaber ignores target defense would trump most bonuses and the slightly higher damage of azurewrath. I obviously don't know what to look for though. Can anyone give me a dumbed down version of what I am missing and what I should look for in future weapons that I would be considering? I understand that eventually I should have a runeword weapon but I'm too poor for that yet. Thanks!|||The reason you may see the lightsaber as being better from the ignore target defense is that otherwise your attack rating may not be high enough to hit monsters consistently which is why it seems less effective. Azurewrath provides substantially more cold and magic damage then lightsabre provides lightning and magic damage. Since a zealer usually has no problem with the physical damage output the additional elemental damage makes it a very well rounded weapon. I think the important part about the azurewrath is the sanctuary aura it provides. This makes it so that undead monsters have a physical immunity of zero, therefore allowing the full brunt of the physical damage you deal on immune to physical undead (the majority of physical immunes).
If its attack rating that you lack you may consider using angelics amulet and ring for the huge attack rating boost, either that or socketing the azurewrath with an eth rune for the -25% target defense, (or if your rich a Jah for the ignore target defense)|||Quote:
Also in pvp there is no way to "resist" magic damage other then magic damage reduction gear so it ends up being a very effective tool in pvp as well since it has 250-500 magic damage (1/6th in pvp).
ouch, it looks like you're recommending it for pvp. maybe you should reword that so that someone doesnt get that impression, it's an awful idea.|||Quote:

Sanctuary sets (positive) physical resistance (not magical) of undead to 0, so it's even more powerful than that.
@badger: Lawbringer's ITD arguably makes it the better weapon, maybe on a Zealot that's not the case since you should have decent AR already. Sanctuary takes care of the majority of physical immunes since they're mostly undead.|||Sorry for the mistake in the physical vs. magical damage resitance, I will edit it to make it correct. I remembered it was one of them but was unsure which.
Also I guess I will take out the part about the pvp, there are many weapons out there that could be used, but it seemed like it wouldn't be like a terrible idea that being if were not looking at runeword weapons. I personally like Astreon's Iron Ward for zealers but I don't know if the slowing is not a prefered mod in pvp.|||there are a few options here if u can afford these items.
eth +4 asterons
eth stormlash
eth death cleaver
eth asterons ward has always been my favorite out of these.|||Thank you everyone for your input. How about if you add destruction runeword into the mix? How does it compare? I've heard it's not the best runeword to get but if it's, say, as good as azurewrath, I might save up for it just for the novelty of having molten boulders and volcanoes sprout from my strikes every few seconds|||If it could be made in an eth weapon I'd say it's maybe worth a try, but seeing as it uses the two most valuable HRs plus a Lo (with which you can make Grief, by far the best weapon), I wouldn't recommend that.|||So what makes grief the best then? Sorry I'm sittin here lookin at it an I just don't see it. It makes me slap my forehead ugh when is it all gonna fall into place and just make sense? And what weap is the best to make it in? pb or zerk or what?|||You'd make it in a PB for speed, since the +damage that's added (varies 340-400) doesn't depend on the weapon's base damage (thus PB's low damage doesn't matter). An ethereal zerker would need over 450% enhanced damage to beat an average Grief, and that's without taking the 20% deadly strike into account.
