Kamikazedin/Martyrdin

Hopefully this falls so far down in the forums noone digs it up

Poor concept, goodluck making it work.

Spoiler

Are you tired of using the same boring builds? Do you want something different to bring to PvP games? Does that darn blue bulb of annoying mana keep draining, leaving you helpless against the forces of evil?

If so, this build is for you!

The Kamikazedin is a paladin with such a drive to win that he will sacrfice himself to destroy his opponent. This build is PvP only.

The Martyrdin using his own blood to please the gods, he imbues his blade with raw holy power. This build is viable for PvM, but, like every other build, has its flaws with certain monsters in Hell Difficulty.

The focus behind these builds is using Sacrifice to dish out massive amounts of damage. This build also takes advantage of Rainbow Facets.

Stat placement is just likea nearly ever other build. The only option here is to place points in Dexterity for Max block or not.

Strength: Enough for Gear

Dexterity: Enough for Gear or Max Block

Vitality: Everything Else

Energy: Nothing

Skill Point Placement can vary slightly depending if you want Max Block or not.

From here the guide is seperated into its two respective builds:

The Kamikazedin for Player vs. Player

The Martyrdin for Player vs. Monster|||If someone can make this work, let me know. Goodluck

Spoiler

PvP Option #1 -- Max Damage

Spoiler

Using a 2 handed weapon.

Defensive Auras

1- Prayer

1 - Defiance

1- Cleansing

1 - Vigor

20 - Redemption

Offensive Auras

1 - Might

1 - Blessed Aim

1 - Concentration

20 - Fanatasim

Combat Skills

20 - Sacrifice

Total = 68 skill points = Level 54 (with all skill quests)

You could use this for Mid Level Dueling, but you would have to adjust gear for your level.

PvP Option #2 -- Max Block/Smite

Using a One-Handed weapon and a shield.

Defensive Auras

1- Prayer

1 - Defiance

1- Cleansing

1 - Vigor

20 - Redemption

Offensive Auras

1 - Might

1 - Blessed Aim

1 - Concentration

20 - Fanatasim

Combat Skills

20 - Sacrifice

1 - Smite

1 - Holy Bolt

1 - Charge

1 - Blessed Hammer

1-20 - Holy Shield

Total = 92 Skill Points = Level 81 (with maxed Holy Shield)

With the weapon being one handed, you will not being doing as much damage (therefore you won't take as much damage) but you'll be able to use a shield and achieve 75% block. This will keep you alive longer giving you more time to hack away at their life before you die, triggering your death rainbow facets and Medusa's Gaze.

You're going to want to make use of all the instant rainbow facets.

Using all 4 jewels and Medusa's Gaze you will cast

Level 31 Meteor (Delayed)

Level 37 Blizzard (Delayed)

Level 47 Chain Lightning (Instant)

Level 51 Poison Nova (Instant)

Level 44 Nova (Instant) (Medusa's Gaze)

The chances that the person dueling you is going to stick around long enough to get hit with Meteor and Blizzard are pretty slim, so if you left one (or both) of those jewels out you wouldn't miss much.

PVP Armor

Helm

Crown of Ages: +1 all skills, 10-15% Damage Reduction, +20-30 Resistances, 30% FHR, and 2 sockets (2 Rainbow Facets) Make this the best choice of helm.

Giant Skull: Crushing blow, +str, and 2 sockets. You could use this until you get Crown of Ages.

Armor

'Enigma': You're going to need the teleport to chase and stomp casters.

Gloves

Steel Rends: +60% Enhanced Damage and +20 Strength!! Great Gloves.

Rings

Bul-Kathos' Wedding Bands: +1 skills and life.

Nagel Rings: Perfect ones will give you +75 AR each, if you find yourself not hitting enough.

Amulet

Metalgrid: Resistances and HUGE attack rating (+400-450)

Highlords Wrath: +20% IAS, and +1 skills great choice if you need the speed, its also fairly easy to obtain.

Belt

Verdungos Hearty Cord: 10-15% damage reduction, FHR, +30-40 Vitality. This is the only belt I recommend.

Boots

Shadow Dancers: 30% FRW, and 30% FHR

Sandstorm Treks: 20% FRW, and 20% FHR They also give Strength allowing you more points into Vitality.

Weapon

'Breath of the Dying': As much damage as possible.

'Grief': Works nicely if you can't get a BotD.

Weapon switch

'Call to Arms': Best switch to have on nearly any build for any occasion.

Shield

Medusa's Gaze: Giving you Nova on Death. If you socket this a Rainbow Facet, you can have more choice of helms. This shield 'Slows Target' and therefore is considered Bad Manners.

Herald of Zakarum: +2 Pally skills and +2 Pally combat skills (+4 to sacrifice total) and Huge resistances. Socket this with a Death Rainbow Facet.

Shield Switch

'Spirit': +2 skills to help boost up your Battle Command/Orders. The FCR doesn't matter, so get a cheap one.

Damage

Level 20 Sacrifice with 15% damage per level from Level 20 Redemption and 5% damage per level from Level 20 Fanatism:

+153% Attack Rating

+865% Damage

Now if you add in the bonuses from Level 20 Fanatism Aura:

+288% Attack Rating

+1238% Damage

+35% Increased Attack Speed

Ethereal 'Breathe of the Dying' Beserker Axe 174-514 damage

500 + 1238% = 6690 Damage

Ethereal 'Breathe of the Dying' Great Poleaxe 334-921

900 + 1238% = 12,042 Damage

This is all before bonuses from gear (+skills, IAS, etc...)

Strategy

You'll want to play this much like a Zealot. Namelock them so you can teleport right on top, and attack away.

You need to make sure you close the distance between yourself and casters. You'll have an advantage of mana. They'll be emptying their mana casting and teleporting. Use Teleport and Vigor to avoid spells. Once you see them start to back off to recharge their mana, telestomp and attack.

Another usefull strategy to use again players with a slower reaction is to Charge and Smite, then use Sacrifice to hack away at their life.

Don't forget to yell "KAMIKAZE!!"|||This isn't feasible, don't waste your time reading.

PvM Option #1 -- Max Damage

Offensive Auras

1 - Might

1 - Concentration

20 - Fanatasim

Combat Skills

20 - Sacrifice

1 - Zeal

Total = 69 = Level 55

Not going for max block will give you ~20 points to play with. These can be put into maxing zeal (not nescessary) or into other skills of your choice. Vigor to help you get around faster if you are going to use CoH instead of Enigma.

The advantage to this is you'll be dealing massive amounts of damage ~10k per hit (more vs. Undead). The disadvantage being you'll be taking massive amounts of damage due to Sacrifice. This is compensated for with % Lifesteal Items.

Some Undead monsters cannot be leeched off!! Use Zeal to deal with these monsters, and for crowd control.

PvM Option #2 -- Max Block/Smite

Using a one-handed weapon to get max block (less damage) and using Smite to deal with Non-leechable monsters

Defensive Auras

1- Prayer

1 - Defiance

1- Cleansing

1 - Vigor

20 - Redemption

Offensive Auras

Equipment

You want to get as much Life Leech as you can. Other mods you want: Increased attack speed, % damage reduced, % damage to mana (your mana has no other use to you,) and +Skills

Helms

Andariel's Visage: This is a great helm to get. +2 to all skill, 8-10% lifesteal, 20% IAS, and other great mods. The only problem is -30% fire resist, which can easily be taken care of if you socket it with a Ral rune.

Vampire Gaze: 6-8% lifesteal and 15-20% damage reduction makes this a good helm to use if you cannot get Andariel's.

Armor

'Chains of Honor': In my opinion, this armor is best for the build. +2 Skills, +200% Damage To Demons, +100% Damage To Undead, 8% Lifesteal, All Resistances +65, and 8% damage reduction. The only downside is no teleport.

'Enigma': This armor is great for nearly every build. +2 Skills, teleport, 8% damage reduction, and 15% damage taken goes to mana make this a good armor to use. If you're using teleport a lot you'll find the mana bulb draining annoyingly fast.

Gloves

Dracul's Grasp: With 7-10% lifesteal, 25% open wounds, and 5% chance to cast lifetap (for bosses)

Blood Crafted Gloves: Magic Heavy Gloves/Sharkskin Gloves/Vampirebone Gloves + Nef Rune + Perfect Ruby + Any Jewel = Gloves with 1-3% lifesteal, crushing blow, +life, and other random mods. This can get you by until you get Dracul's and, depending upon what mods you roll, can even be better.

Rings

Bull Kathos' Wedding Bands: +1 skills, 3-5% lifesteal, and +life make these great rings to have.

Blood Crafted Rings: Magic Ring + Sol Rune + Perfect Ruby + Any Jewel = 1-3% lifesteal, +life, and other random mods. Like the gloves, these can get you by until you find BK rings or be better than BK rings depending on the mods.

Amulet

Eye of Elitch: +1 Skills, 3-7% lifesteal, and a bit of cold damage. Great amulet.

Crescent Moon: 10% damage to mana, 3-6% lifesteal, mana boosts and manasteal. Great if you're using 'Engima'

Blood Crafted Amulet: Magic Amulet + Amn Rune + Perfect Ruby + Any Jewel = 1-4% lifesteal, +life, random mods. You can get lucky enough to get +Paladin Skills, making this a perfect amulet to use.

Belt

String of Ears: 6-8% lifesteal, and 10-15% damage reduction make this belt a good easy to get choice. You'll want to get this early on to make sure you're getting enough lifesteal. You can also choose to up it to elite for extra defense.

Verdungo's Hearty Cord: 10-15% damage reduction, FHR, +30-40 Vitality, and 10-13 replenish life makes this a great belt to use if you have plenty of lifesteal.

Boots

Gore Riders: With open wounds, curshing blow, and deadly strike, these should speed up your kills, especially against high life monsters.

Sandstorm Treks: The +10-15 strength from these can save you hard points and allow you more life. They also have huge poison resistance.

Marrowalks: These hold lifetap charges. There is a handful of monsters that cannot be leeched off, and it is very useful against Act bosses (baal especially) Keep in mind you have a chance to cast lifetap on your Dracul's Grasp. Zeal until they cast, then switch to Sacrifice for massive damage.

Weapon

'Breath of the Dying': This is the best weapon you could get for this build. Just a few of the awesome the mods: +60% IAS, +350-400% Enhanced Damage, +200% Damage To Undead, 12-15% Life Stolen Per Hit, +30 To All Attributes, Indestrucible. You'll want to make this in and Ethereal weapon to get the best damage you can. If you're going with the max damage build, make it in an Ethereal Great Poleaxe. If you're going for max block you can make it in an Ethereal Beserker Axe.

Other Weapons: You want as much damage as you can (make sure you have lifetap to cover for the 8% you'll be taking) Some good uniques to use are Flamebellow or Doombringer.

Weapon Switch

'Call to Arms': This is used for the Battle Command and Battle Orders. The increase in life and skills is invaluable.

Lifetap Wand: If you find yourself faced with strong, non leechable monsters (see below) this can be very helpful.

Shield

Medusa's Gaze: 5-9% lifesteal, 40-80% cold resist, and slows target by 20%. Slows Target will help immensly if you're faced with a crowd, and the lifesteal is very beneficial.

Herald of Zakarum: 80% chance to block, 30% Faster Block Rate, 20% Bonus To Attack Rating, +20 Strength, +20 Vitality +50 All Resistances, +2 paladin skills, and another +2 to the combat skills.

Shield Switch

'Spirit': to give you +2 to your Battle Command and Orders.

Life Leech

% Life stolen is vital to make this build work. The minimum amount of life steal you'll need is 8% to cover the loss you take when you damage a monster. Unfortunately life leech only works at 50% (1/2) effectiveness in Nightmare, and 33% (1/3) effectiveness in Hell.

This means to be effective in hell you're going to need atleast 24% Life Stolen Per Hit against monsters with 100% drain effectiveness (further information on drain effectiveness and lifesteal below)

Damage

The damages here are the same as in PvP:

Ethereal 'Breathe of the Dying' Beserker Axe 174-514 damage

500 + 1238% = 6690 Damage

Ethereal 'Breathe of the Dying' Great Poleaxe 334-921

900 + 1238% = 12,042 Damage

When fighting Undead type monsters you get an extra +200% damage from 'Breathe of the Dying'.

You need to be careful. Certain Undead monsters (All skeleton type) cannot be leeched. That means that your xx% lifesteal will do nothing for you, and you'll be losing 8% of the damage you do from your health. Be sure to switch to Zeal to kill these monsters.

This is later in the thread, but I thought it would be nice to put up here. Thanks to onderduiker for more information on monsters with low drain effectivesness and non leechable monsters.

Aside from constructs (including Flying Scimitars), the following monsters also have 0% drain effectiveness in all difficulty levels (so the only way to leech life is to cast Life Tap):

  • Skeletons

  • Swarms (Immune to Physical in Hell)

  • Willowisps

  • Skeleton Archers

  • Skeleton Mages

  • Night Marauders (Baboon Demons in the Halls of Vaught, Immune to Physical in Hell)

  • Wraiths in Act 5 (Immune to Physical in Hell, but Sanctuary would ignore that)

The last two will only spawn in Nightmare and Hell. (Uber) Mephisto has 100% drain effectiveness in Normal but 0% in Nightmare and Hell; Diablo has 100% in Normal, 50% in Nightmare and 0% in Hell. When duelling, all summoned pets have 0% drain effectiveness with the exception of Blood Golem (100% in all difficulty levels) and possibly Revived (who may have the same drain effectiveness as their monster type, although I haven't confirmed this).

Uber Diablo and Diablo clone have 15% in all difficulty levels: 160% Life Stolen per hit would be required just to counter damage-to-self in Hell, so casting LT is still recommended.

(Uber) Baal and his clone have 100% in Normal, 50% in Nightmare and 20% in Hell: 120% LS would be required just to counter damage-to-self in Hell, so casting LT is still recommended.

The following monsters have 33% drain effectiveness in Hell:

  • Wraiths in Acts 1-3 (Immune to Physical in Hell, but Sanctuary would ignore that)

  • Mummies

  • Greater Mummies

  • Andariel

  • Sand Maggot Eggs

  • Bone Fetishes

  • Finger Mages

  • Doom Knights

  • Abyss Knights

  • Oblivion Knights

  • Lilith

73% LS would be required just to counter damage-to-self, so casting LT is still recommended.

Otherwise, all other monsters in Normal have 100% drain effectiveness (8% LS will counter damage-to-self); all other monsters in Nightmare and Hell have 50% drain effectiveness or more (damage-to-self countered by 32% LS in Nightmare, 48% in Hell). All hirelings have 100% drain effectiveness in all difficulty levels, and I suspect the same applies to other players (although I haven't confirmed it).

Just to be clear, life is returned after damage-to-self, so if damage-to-self ≥ current life you will die before you have a chance to heal.

Lifesteal is reduced so much in Player vs. Player fighting (1/7th effectiveness + Difficulty deduction) that in order to get the 8% lifesteal back you would need upwards of 1000% so it isn't possible (hence Kamikazedin)

Using the items listed above (1st item listed in each category) will give you anywhere from 55% (low end stats) to 77% (perfect lifesteal stats)|||Guide is complete!

Any feedback (postivie or negative) would be greatly appreciated

EDIT: Why isn't Paladin a tag option?|||You can use Life Tap too.

Blessed Aim is also something to get since you won't want any of your swings to miss when they cost you so dearly.|||Quote:

Highlords Wrath: Deadly Strike, +20% IAS, and +1 skills great choice if you need the speed, its also fairly easy to obtain.

Deadly Strike does not apply to Sacrifice.

Quote:

Skills marked with * are needed to achieve the use of Sanctuary. Sanctuary can be helpful to switch to while fighting Undead type monsters. In Hell nearly ever Undead type monster has 50% damage resistance. This aura ignores Undead's physical resistances AND immunities. It also provides knockback and a huge bonus to damage again the Undead. 1 hard point plus skill boosts from equipment will make this a more powerful aura to use against undead then a level 20 fanatasim.

Due to a bug Sanctuary's +% Damage to Undead and its hidden + Attack Rating Against Undead aren't applied.

That gives you plenty of room play with gear. The bare minimum gear (Nonladder, no runewords) to achieve 24% lifesteal is Vampire Gaze (8-10%) String of Ears (6-8%) Dracul's Grasp (7-10%) and one Blood Crafted or Bull-Kathos Ring (3-5%) I would recomend getting higher, but thats the minimum you need.

The Minimum amount (low end) of Life Stolen Per Hit from the above gear is 52%

Not only is % Life Stolen per hit reduced by difficulty level penalties, it is further reduced by target drain effectiveness: 0% drain effectiveness renders it completely useless, and most monsters have lower % drain effectiveness in Nightmare and Hell. You may require minimum 24% LS to counter 8% damage-to-self, but even 52% LS won't counter damage-to-self against targets with <47% drain effectiveness (and a significant minority of monsters in Hell, particularly undead, have 50% drain effectiveness or less).

Against monsters, Life Tap should be strongly recommended: it isn't affected by drain effectiveness or difficulty level penalties so it always returns life equivalent to 50% physical attack damage, which means it will always counter Sacrifice's damage-to-self and return life equivalent to 42% physical attack damage as well. You can easily shop for daggers and wands with Life Tap charges, and switch weapons to cast it.

Although Sacrifice always displays the bleeding animation when you swing, damage-to-self isn't applied if the attack misses or gets blocked.|||I like the idea of exploding in pvp, but you might want to suggest a second shield. Slows target is bad manners most of the time.|||Quote:

Thanks.

@Onduiker: Thank you! I'll Try to find a list of monsters whos drain effectiveness is less than 50% to put in the guide.

I should suggest a point into Zeal to help with crowd control and with Monsters who aren't Leechable.

Sounds like the best gear for Sacrifice includes Dracul's and Exile. You start off with Zeal to trigger Tap, then you Sacrifice them all.
