Uber Smite Advice

Hi I just started playing after 7 yrs and seems like a lot has changed. I'm on US East ladder. After some good MF runs, I'm ready to build a smiter. I have limited high level runes so I want to make sure I use them right. This is my plan please let me know if it will work.

1. Weapon - Grief (phase blade) - I can't afford Last Wish and I hear both are about just as good.

2. Armor - Most like Treachery. (I have a Ber for COH, but am saving if for enigma for my hammerdin waiting to find a Jah)

3. Shield - Will build exile. Still looking for good 4 socket pally shield with high base resists.

4. Helm - I heard Guillaume's Face works well. Also have andriel's visage with ral. Can also use Shako

5. Gloves - laying of hands or Dracul's Grasp

6. Ammy - highlords.

7. Shoes - Gore Riders.

Please let me know what you think about this. Most interested in the opinion on weapon armor and shield. Like I said I have very limited high runes and would like to use them wisely. Thanks.|||Wow, 7 years! Welcome back. Here's my take on your situation.

Weapon: Between the two, I'd recommend neither. Go Stormlash. It has CB & Light absorb which is an extremely convenient combination of mods when you think about it. Besides, three Jahs in the same weapon? Just hurts to look at even if LW is godly.

Armor: Treachery is great but you can just swap it out once Fade procs for just about anything with some resistances (like Guardian Angel).

Shield: While Exile is a beast, the cheaper alternatives aren't that far behind. Spirit in a good Pally shield or Griswold's with 3x P Diamonds (102% all res) work well too.

The most expensive item I had on mine, several years ago, was Stormlash and my Light res was 85% with Mephisto's Conviction on. As you can tell, Paladins can be very economical doing UT.|||For weapon either: Stormlash, Heavens Light or even Griz caddy can work really well.

A great armor for an uber smiter is Fortidude, but that requires a Lo rune, which is the third most expensive HR out there, so prioritizing between chars and gear is important here. As for an inexpensive armor for a smiter i don't really know, Guardian angel is k, but i think there are better options like, Duress which gives some FHR, CB, resists. Stone runeword is a possibility, if u want to take the defensive route.

I suggest going for whatever u can get as cheap as possible, at a limited budget.|||As long as you have life-tap, stacked res, some CB and a high rate of attack and chance to hit, you should do ok. Divide and conquer. It's a lot easier to take Meph out first (or last); not all of them together.

My dull, cookie-cutter uber-smiter from three seasons ago used:

Wep: Grief PB

Shield: Exile eth vortex

Helm: CoA (can't remember what I had socketed in it)

Armor: CoH AP

Gloves: Dracs

Belt: Dungos (I may have swapped to Tgods for Ubers; can't remember)

Boots: Gores

Ammy: Mara's

Rings: Ravenfrost and ... Wisp iirc.

Slow as a turtle moving, but he did fine. I teamed with one other guy who brought his hammerdin for most of the run and we ran a good hundred or more times, always doing the three pre-bosses first, then Trist. I died a few times to Mephie but it was rare; usually because I did something stupid.

The next season I built an uber-Kicksin and found her to be a lot more fun. Solo'd with her a few times and never looked back.|||Quote:

Thanks for all the advice. I have one lo rune, was wondering if to put it in exile or fortitude. I was thinking of going the exile route right now. What do you think? Mostly because of how critical life tap is for a pally.

I also have the runes for building Grief. Thats about it. Grief and Exile. Looking at the calculations below seems like grief works quite a bit better. Or does the light absorb of heaven's light even up later.

Heaven's Light (perfect 3 skills/2x Shael) is a 6 Frame Attack with 33% Crushing Blow (83% total).

Smite Damage = 1585

The Redeemer (perfect damage +120) is an 8 Frame Attack with no additional Crushing Blow (50% total).

Smite Damage = 2893

Astreon's Iron Ward (perfect +4 Combat skills/damage +85) is a 7 Frame Attack with 33% Crushing Blow (83% total).

Smite Damage = 2569

"Black" Flail, Knout or Scourge is a 7 Frame Attack with 40% Crushing Blow (90% total).

Smite Damage = 1326

"Last Wish" Phase Blade is a 7 Frame Attack with 60-70% Crushing Blow (100% total). Also an additional +200% ED from lvl 17 Might aura.

Smite Damage = 1567

"Grief" Phase Blade (perfect damage +400) is a 6 Frame Attack with no additional Crushing Blow (50% total).

Smite Damage = 5726|||Grief+Upd hoz would be my choice

You can get Tap from Dracs which also give extra chance for OW which will stop the ubers from regenerating life.

Using Fade from Treachery+Kiras helm and Smoke armor is an easy/cheap route to max out your resistances while keeping flexibility in gear(does mean no Guils for CB)|||Quote:

If i were you i would definetely reserve the Lo rune for Fortidude, the armor slot is the most important one in terms of protection and forti also adds a nice chunk of dmg(the ED doesn't work with smite though, but it works with zeal, which will help with the annoying monsters at miniubers).

Exile is pretty much a luxury item afaic, Grizz shield or HoZ(which i use) will get the job done just as well and they are much much cheaper than exile.

For lifetap, drac gloves(prices from low to high Pul/um/mal/ist+) or a lifetap wand.

If u need a source of lightning absorb, i would recommend thundergods belt, it works great for me and a low ed one shouldn't be more than some pgm's.

As for the two absolute top end weapons, here is one discussion about it:

http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=419168

My philosophy of ubering at early ladder is focusing on defense rather than offense, sure the faster u kill the less need u will have for taking dmg from enemies, but don't underestimate the conviction aura from Mephisto and the annoying monsters in Matrons Den, especially if u are doing the runs alone.

Greetings, Psyche|||A Life Tap option which my friend liked was Marrowalk boots; they have charges (10 level 12). He preferred them over a Dracs/wand because he could cast it at will rather than risk waiting for a proc, and it didn't take up a wep slot. Dual stats is a nice extra.|||How much IAS do I need with a 40 IAS Grief Zerk Axe to reach the final smite breakpoint? Going with a Zmiter for uber trist.|||I had the same question. What is the max increased speed after which there is no more benefit to smite. Thanks.
