Merc gear

[:1]Hello my fellow paladins. I have two questions for you experienced zealers.

Few months ago i saw cyrus guide for fanatic zealer and decided to make one with godly gear.

-weapon: eBotD zerker

-armor: CoH AP

-shield: Exile Vortex shield

-helm: 1os CoA (hope to get 2os in few days from trade)

-gloves: Draculs grasp

-belt: Verdungs hearty cord

-boots: Sandstorm trek

-amulet: perf Mara's

-rings: 2x Bul Kathos rings

My question for you is: what gear to use for my merc, and what merc to use in first place?

So far i've been using NM merc from Lut Gholein with Holy freeze aura and this gear:

-weapon: Bonehew axe

-armor: Duriels shell

-helm: Gillaumes face

Thnk you in advance!!!

edit:

I forgot to ask what weapon is good for physical res monsters? Will Famine rw do the trick?|||The best Merc for your character is a Might merc (NM mode, Offensive). Other mercs don't increase your damage. This one does.

Weapon: Reaper's Toll is my pick; the Decrepify takes care of your physical immune problem, and the rest of the stats are great too.

Armor: Fortitude for max damage; Gladiator Bane for max survivability

Helm: Guillaume, Andariel, VGaze, and CoA are all great. Just make sure to Cham your helm if you're not getting CBF from the armor slot.|||Ok thnx LordC.|||I would suggest a reapers toll for a weapon or a tal's mask to get some life leech.|||Get an ebotdgpa or ebotdwp for merc weapon. I do not like the idea of decrep overlapping lifetap. Not safe at all.

Pally Shields for Spirit

[:1]I've been doing baal run after baal run - where are these shields dropped most often! Thanks

USWEST, Ladder|||Hmm, wouldn't nightmare cows be a pretty good place? I found my low level Spirit shield (4os Crown Shield) in normal cows.

Instead of doing runs over and over on the same place, I like to change it up a bit. I find that Frigid Highlands is pretty nice for a good assortment of stuff in each difficulty.|||I think the best place is the "infernal pit" in where is uber izual. I often see good pally shields w/ resists and sockets drop there.

Ofc you need to be able to kill those monsters fast enough.|||The answer is the same for all white socketables: Hell cows.|||Yeah, for white or gray I find cows to be best, followed by the lvl 85 areas (Chaos, Pit, Ancient Tunnels). It does take time to find a good 40+ res all shield for a base.|||Thanks. I finally found a decent one in Hell Chaos. |||Mainly it is all about luck. Yeah so frusterating trying to get a 45 all resist sacred targe and tons of spirit runes. You would want to aim for 35% fcr on the shield too.|||Quote:

The answer is the same for all white socketables: Hell cows.

Correct, except for TC87s (i.e. Berserker Axe, Vortex Shield, Diadem, etc.).

Run A85s for those...|||i've had extremely good success finding socketable pally shields running Nihlathak with 0% MF.|||One more question - What is the highest possible 'resist all' I can hope to find on a pally shield for Spirit?

I read this (see below) but am confused. So is the highest a white shield can go is 35% resist all? Confused, mainly by the fact it says "magic" for the 35%-45% resists. I guess I just need to find a better chart someplace.

Quote:

19.0% - Shimmering (+5-10% Resist All) - Ilvl 1, Clvl 3.

16.7% - Rainbow (+8-15% Resist All) - Ilvl 18, Clvl 13.

14.3% - Scintillating, (+16-30% Resist All) - Ilvl 28, Clvl 21.

12.0% - Prismatic, (+25-35% Resist All) - Ilvl 39, Clvl 31.

9.5% - Chromatic, (+35-45% Resist All) - Ilvl 50, Clvl 42. (magic-only)

Impossible auradin puzzle?

[:1]let me start off by saying i'm still kind a newb to D2, but i've been doing allot of reading and killed 2 chars trying to make a "special" build.

Now i'm puzzling to make an auradin with about 6 aura's, something allong the lines of:

dream helm

enigma dusk shroud

Dragon shield

bramble armor for merc

pride voulge for merc

skillz:

resist fire 18 (28)

resist cold 18 (28)

resist lightning 18 (28)

salvation 18 (28)

conviction 14 (24 to get to the 150 - resist, and offcourse my active one)

zeal 1

holy shield 1

and the prereq. offcourse would lead me to lvl 89 to complete this build

this would give me fire, freeze and shock aura's who are allmost fully synergized, a thorns aura and my active conviction allong with concentration from my merc (since i would be using an act 2 merc the freeze aura would also come from him) ........

now the problem is offcourse puzzling to get my full resists, the +10 skills (or more if possible) and getting the attack speed to where i want it......

so my questions are 1) is this char even possible to assemble or am I

wasting my time at an impossible puzzle?

2) if so, would it even be viable? or would it be

better damage-wise to stick to less aura's?

btw as a sidenote i'm also considering doing this with let's say a sorc to see if this would be possible

thx in advance for any advice and thoughts |||

ull have 5 active auras with this build: holy freeze from the merc wont be active on u, so ur points in the synergies would be waisted. the runes are very expensive and be spent better in a similar build: a dual dreamer would be more viable or a dragoon or auradin.

but back to ur built: if u want a holy freeze aura, ull need a doom weapon. but even with synergies and conviction, were probably looking at 3k ele dmg. in synergies only hard points - aka skill points from level ups and quests rewards count. so +skills wont add to the synergy, only the skill itself. + skills wont work on the aura level granted by items either. if cost is not an issue u can get a torch, an anni, a cta, highlords amu, a bk ring and have already +7 skills - skiller charms could solve the rest. resist could be attained from charms too. for ias wed need to know which attack skill u want to use. but what could be attained on this build would be:

HL: 20 ias

LoH or rare/crafted gloves: 20 ias

Nosferatus coil: 10 ias

-> 50 off weapon ias

1) this char is possible, but only a fun build, cheaper builds would dish out more damage

2) viable? cant tell. probably not very fast. less auras (as mentioned above) would deal more damage|||Quote:

holy freeze from the merc wont be active on u, so ur points in the synergies would be waisted. the runes are very expensive

Well said Krupa. That points should be spent on Holy Shield couse you're going to need all that HS is giving.

This build is "build-able" but it'll be hardly in balance IMO and very very expensive.

If you want +10 skills i would recomend: Mara's amulet and two 1.10 BKWB rings (+2 skills each)

also i would recommend CoH instead of Enigma. CoH also has +2 to all skills but also a fine reserve of ress to all which you will be running low if do this.

This 4 items grants you +8 skills and cost whole fortune.

offensive aura skiller with fhr, why so valuable?

[:1]So I found one of these and thought it was just another crappy skiller. Then I saw a price check where someone told the OP one was sold for 15-20 Ists on last ladder. That got me wondering, why is this specific combo so expensive? Obviously it's for pvp but since my knowledge about pvp is limited at best, could someone enlighten me a bit and tell me what pala build/builds need just this particular skiller so badly? Or was the guy claiming it's worth so much talking nonsense?|||my guess would be maybe a dual holy freeze/holy shock pally? itd boost both all active offensive auras, with zeal the fhr means less interupts id guess|||Wasn't there something going around about the best damage output on a hammerdin being some mix of pcombs and offensives?

Other than that I can't think of any high-end build that would use this... except maybe a pali with Infi merc that's aiming for level ~40 HS.|||Quote:

my guess would be maybe a dual holy freeze/holy shock pally? itd boost both all active offensive auras, with zeal the fhr means less interupts id guess

Zeal is uninteruptable, so don't think that's what you'd use them for.

Quote:

Wasn't there something going around about the best damage output on a hammerdin being some mix of pcombs and offensives?

From what I can see using the hammer optimization charts (here) this doesn't seem to be the case. At least I cannot find such a case (though I haven't tried all input combinations ofc).

It could be for a FoH (or mage) that wish to increase their conviction (and concentration) aura. Not sure if they'd actually do more damage that way, but having higher conviction then your opponent could also be the reason in this case.|||Quote:

....but having higher conviction then your opponent could also be the reason in this case.

that's the only reason i can come up with for anyone using an offensive auras GC in PvP.

i've heard of FoHers and some V/Ts keeping a handful of off-aura GCs on hand when they come up against another FoHer, in which case, highest level conviction WINS!|||Ok thank you all, your replies were really interesting read!

Searced a bit and found many values of 1-2 Ist for the very same skiller from some veteran players, maybe the price was after all just exaggerated.|||Quote:

dont forget with the introduction of 1.13 prices changed a LOT. so depending in which time u searched aka in which time that estimation was, it might be outdated|||Apparenlty Groo had one for sale in the end of last ladder for 10-20 ist. Dunno if he sold it tho, the thread is over 60 pages long.

Templar Merc Gear Question

[:1]I need advice for my templar merc gears. I am thinking about taking barbarian merc with dual crescent moon. For lowering resists ( - 70 on total )

Any other advices would be great.|||Crecent moon only lowers resists for the player (or merc in this case) using it. So only the merc would benefit from the lower resists, not you. The only way to get lower resists from a merc onto you is to equip them with infinity. Pus Spitter has a CTC Lower resist on it, but since it's a crossbow, it's not usable by mercs.

Merc weapon for 2h Avenger

[:1]Just a quick question about which is better for my 2h avenger...Infinity or Reaper's Toll? I suspect the majority of my damage is elemental but I wouldn't be surprised if half of it was physical...in which case +50% from a reaper's merc (+ might) could be nice. Of course, I would lose out on the - enemy defense and I don't have teleport to get him where I want but maybe I can stand this....

Thanks for your help.

Forgot to mention I'm using an EDeath Colossus Blade|||I'm guessing you use Fanaticism as your aura. In that case Infinity is going to grant you a whole lot more damage, but with 2h-avengers being a bit squishy (is yours?) decrip might be of more use. If you don't have probs with life-leech I'd say Infi on a HF merc.|||Infinity merc is useless for an avanger. An avenger would always have a lvl 25 conviction for forget infinity on merc. If you are using edeath cb then get a faith merc for ias. I mean death has no ias and its hard to get more ias other than loh and hlords.|||Have you used a shieldless paladin with a one-target 10 FPA attack before?|||Quote:

Have you used a shieldless paladin with a one-target 10 FPA attack before?

Me no but im guessing the op needs ias for this build.|||Ya I didn't mention that I'm using Fana and I'm very squishy even with lots of ll and Call to Arms. What keeps me alive is the confuse from the merc's Delirium which I realize now would be overridden by Decrepify...|||@minuses: He'd get absolutely destroyed without a sturdy merc to help him tank.

@ziambe: Not a big deal. Most things will be confused since decrip's radius is fairly small, and decrip itself isn't exactly terrible as a method of crowd control either

Still, for damage, Might/Infi is the way to go. I would recommend you try Holy Freeze first and see how you like the additional safety.|||If I may ask, why exactly are you using edeath as opposed to the more obvious choices (ebotd or eoath)? Not using your own slvl 25 conviction when using vengeance seems like such a waste. I would rather focus on getting that IAS from gear and then invest on a heavy "slow" merc (holy freeze + reaper's).|||Quote:

Infinity merc is useless for an avanger. An avenger would always have a lvl 25 conviction for forget infinity on merc.

I'll be sure to let my 2h Fanatic Avenger know he's using the wrong aura.

@OP: My 2h Avenger set up was pretty similar to yours. I used a Might merc with Infinity. I normally use Conversion on my 2h pallies, but he actually one shot just about every enemy I tried to convert, so I just kept swinging and killed everything before they could kill me. However, I had a Lawbringer weapon on switch and used Smite to apply Decrepify if I ever felt like I needed it. I would suggest getting a Holy Freeze merc for the crowd control. On mine, the difference between the merc being alive and dead was only about 1k damage (his max damage being 16k).

I will add that I like having high FHR on my 2h Paladins. As leech is the primary thing keeping you alive, having your attack cycle interrupted/delayed is a very bad thing. Also, use Charge a lot. Keeps you from getting surrounded.

Quote:

What keeps me alive is the confuse from the merc's Delirium which I realize now would be overridden by Decrepify...

Confuse from Delirium outranges Decrepify. You will end up with an outside perimeter of confused enemies with an inner core of decrepfied enemies. The two work together quite well actually.|||@Norrit Because it's single player and I don't have a Zod. Death has mana steal, 20% Bonus to attack rating, a bit more ED, Deadly Strike, and Crushing Blow. Oath has more damage to Demons and 50% IAS, but I planned on Fana not Conviction.

@Hubb/Clock Ok yea, I didn't think about the smaller radius on Decrepify. I will try that now and if its still not enough, consider holy freeze also. But I will lose around 3k damage without might? And I am playing through on /p8

And I love charge... Before this, the only paladin I tried was a hammerdin which was nice but enigma-dependent and I no longer have that, and a non-exp zealot which got boring. Charge on the other hand is a lot of fun and I am almost tempted to build a charger except for the fact that the paladin can't use attack skills on the LMB =(. Also, I had a lot of problems with it in act 2 and 3 (probably just a coincidence)...I would get locked mid charge and unless my merc attacked the enemy I was charging, or it died from some other cause, I would remain locked until death - not fun. What is really interesting is that I obviously wasn't using holy shield and I thought that that was the 'charge bug' which they fixed. Could it be another buff...BO/Chilling armor from Fort? expiring mid charge?

Teslafrosters

[:1]or dreamers are they still possible to make in 1.13? Do the auras from both dreams stack?|||Yes and yes.|||sweet thanks!

Hybrid Avenger?

[:1]Can an Avenger w/ max Redemption be viable? I would probably max Vengeance and boost some of the synergies. I was wondering if the aura would keep your globes full as you were slaying stuff.|||You would be able to beat the game, but I don't see the point. Maxed Redemption doesn't give particularly impressive returns. At 5 points you are looking at 55% chance to redeem a corpse, at 20 points you have 85% chance. In general, you only need one or two corpses to fill up your mana bulb and using potions is a more reliable way to keep your health topped off.

1-5 points in Redemption is great to fill up on mana without using a potion mid or post battle. But outside of a novelty build, you'd be better suited spending the points elsewhere.|||Can I be the first one to suggest a phoenix shield?

how's this pvm fanat zealer gear setup???

[:1]guillaume's face

highlord's wrath / metalgrid

fortitude archon plate

phoenix vortex shield w/ +45 res

reason I've got multiple options for some slots is I'm not sure what's optimal. for wrecking stuff in PVM. keep in mind this isn't solely for ubers it's just an all around PVM setup to kickass anywhere anytime that can also pull off an uber run if need be. any suggestions to improve? how would I mix and match this equipment for different situations? could this build be pvp viable? thanks|||overgeared.|||welcome to the forum

u dont need half the gear u show here to walk over everything in pvm.

but if u really need some advise about how to optimize:

for belt id use either thundergod vs souls or SoE for general pvm. beats the other two imo

phoenix is annoying, cuz of its ctc. use a sanctuary, exile or stormshield (res, defense or %dr) and make the rws in a sacred targe instead for less str and dex needed - also slightly better smite dmg.

if u use exile, craft blood gloves with ias, res and stats

Highlord is superior to metalgrid for zealers cuz of the ds and ias. the ar arent needed with items like urs, and in UT u can always use smite|||You'll do fine. In general, stick Grief on just about any character and the game becomes a joke.|||Everything Krupa said. Although I prefer LoH over crafted gloves.|||If you want even more oomph then add 2xDream and an Infinity wielding merc. This is about as ridiculous overpowered as you can get...

And while you are at it. Switch that Fortitude for Enigma: Teleport >> extra dmg.|||I really don't know why use Phoenix rw. You are fana zealer, right?

What good is Redemption aura on zealer?

My recomandation:

-Exile in shield: -Up to lvl 16 defiance aura (perfect for defence)

-lvl5 Life tap (immortality for zealers - enough said)

-LoH for Trav runs and bosses, otherwise Draculs

-Verdungos definitely for belt (especially if you can get 15% DR)

-rings: put one Raven frost and one rare ring with dual leech and usefull mods

Your equipment is really really good. You should be able to cut throu mobs with no difficulties.

Just change Phoenix shield, ok?

And... Welcome to forum. See you around

Considering this char is mostly pvp, i wouldnt use exile as it i consider it BM, and spirit? That would result in terrible smite damage.

My health now is 4k, for a smiter thats quite high, MB, base strength, i still need to fill my inv with 20l scs and need to get a 6 bo yet. Im guessing 4.8-5k on completion.

The only time tele is useful is to escape bone prison, or to occasionally tele stomp chars with frw. Telesmiting is viable though. Charge > imo because you can synch.

What sources of fcr would you use without killing your effectiveness?|||Quote:

Well, ofcourse if your realm rules ban exile, don't use it. Eu non lad however allows it, as smiter is pretty underdog char anyway. Smite damage difference between zaka and spirit is minimal, you lose only +2 combat skills.

Chainlock tele smite is one of the best attacks in the game, high unblockable damage, stun. Tele smiting is the only way to keep up and still get hits in with an opponent who teleports away.

It's not that hard, it's only one frame slower than most casters. With bit of practise you can even keep up with sorcs.

Smiter got way too many weaknesess, they don't really stand a chance vs. hdin, necro, druid, good baba.

Ah i see what you're saying, and as for smite damage, it still does go down. Not as many +skills = less damage. As for telesmiting i may give it a try. I do always loving synching with charge though.

A good hdin or windy > all almost every time. Telesmiting is all that works but when i telesmite i simply do not use it more than once in a row.

Well, since my smiter is built around exile/spirit, I pretty much have to use coa to gain high dr. Waterwalks is what I use, you will have much more life with them. Gores doesn't offer that much to a pvp smiter, cb isn't that useful on pvp smiter, deadly strike doesn't work, you are left with little ow.

I can try to make a telesmite video, to demonstrate abit how I usually use it. Chars like druids are imo impossible without telesmiting.|||Quote:

They certainly are. I am now using waterwalks too. Kept gores stached for vs some casters and i use 85 kiras and charge left click with fanat and it works pretty well

Shield for Fana Zealot?

[:1]Hello, I'm making a fana zealot, and I'm confused on what to gear him up with, especially the shield and charms, so you pally experts, please help me =D Oh yeah, he will mostly do only PvM, probably at /p8.

This is his skill distribution:

1 Prayer

1 Defiance

1 Cleansing (utility skill)

1 Vigor (for transport)

1 Redemption (to clean up bodies)

1 Might

1 Blessed Aim

1 Concentration

20 Fanaticism

20 Sacrifice, Zeal, and Holy Shield, and 1 in HS prerequsities

Total 93 points, finished at lv 82. Rest will probably be dumped to defiance for HS synergy, or concentrate if I'm lacking in AR. I'm trying to build a rather standard hack and slash character and get him as much damage and defense as possible.

Current planned gear :

Grief PB (azurewrath on switch)

Guillaume's Face

Guardian Angel

Goreriders

Ravenfrost

Dungos/string of ears

HIghlord's

crafted blood gloves/LoH, or draculs if I don't get exile

Now, what confuses me is, should I give him a HoZ or an exile? HoZ gives more + skills and resists (it can be Um'd for more resists), while exile gives more defense. However, the defiance from exile "only" adds 220% defense, and I already get 350% from unsynergized HS, and 15% more as I level defiance. On the other hand, the +skills from HoZ also doesn't do much as it only increases damage by 58% and defense by 30%, and I already have +700% damage from zeal+fana, and another 200%ish from might merc. Ebugged eth shield from exile would give more base defense than HoZ though.. Or should I up HoZ? And should I make any change to my other gears?

Also, what charms should I go with? Sharp GCs only add 10 damage, and with about 1000% Ed they only add 50 avg damage while I would already be doing 5kish avg damage, that's only 1% of my total damage output per GC. Combat GC and offense aura also gives the same output. Should I just forget about extra damage sources and get res/life charms instead?

Sorry for the long questions. Thank in advance! =)|||A few points

1) It's blessed aim that gives the passive ar bonus

2) Up hoz and use dracs. You will have better resistances and more consistent smite damage if you use the one point you have with your grief pb

3) Defense isn't hugely important in Pvm

4) Just use your charms to fill in your weaknesses like reaching you fhr break points or making all your resistances maxed or even stacked

5) Since your Pvm you wont really need the mass damage of a Pvp smiter|||Thx for the response =)

Ah yes, I meant blessed aim, mixed that up with concentrate. Sorry if I didn't write more details before, I am playing SP, so I won't be using smite much (I think most 1 point smiter use their smite for ubers?). Actually, I am looking for high damage, as I am looking for a build that can take me through hell in p8 solo. If I won't be using the smite, is HoZ still better than grief( EDIT: exile, duh xD )?|||I'm not sure what you are saying in your last statement, but you use HoZ WITH Grief. Do you mean if you wanted an opinion of using Grief with Exile or Grief with HoZ? My personal perference is with HoZ as this gives me more resists, 20% AR, life, +skill/dmg. Looking at your gear, you really don't need any more defense, HoZ with grief and draculs if the way to go.|||1pt in smite is still good verses any boss, especially if he is surrounded and you want to take him out first|||If this is just pvm, and you can afford an Exile... why not Fortitude armor and Phoenix shield?|||Well, Phoenix, if I'm not mistaken, is Vex+Vex+Lo+Jah. I'm playing SP, so the Jah will take quite a while to get(and I'd rather make enigma if I get Jah). I'm not feeling like rushing 20 packs of 7 characters to HF xD. Same goes with fort, although it's much more affordable, I think the extra 200% ED over my current 1k% is not worth the work right now (though I might try it when I get to rushing another Lo). Besides, CtA on switch to up my life, I'm feeling like getting 90% resists that GA offers (not to mention it looks really cool).

Just another question though, the LCS is LYING when it shows that the damage from my grief is just 1k, isn't it? =(|||The Lying Character Screen is indeed living up to its name with Grief damage. It does not show the wonderful, wonderful impact of the +whatever damage bonus.

In my experience, getting small amounts of absorb works much better than getting high resists in PVM. It's very satisfying to stand in a pack of Gloams or Venom Lords and heal from their elemental attacks. If you're going to meet Gloams often I'd recommend dumping the dungos for a tgods, even.|||The ubers guide recommends a Sanctuary.

Only if you need the resistances to counteract Mephisto's Conviction aura. There are many other ways to get around this however.

- Treachery runeword's Fade spell proc. Big resistance buff, 5 minute duration.

- 1 point in Salvation aura and have it active for the fight. If it keeps you alive then it's worth the loss in DPS from turning off Fanaticism.

- Lighning/Cold resist charms.

All these things can mean that you can keep your fancy HoZ/Exile shield in its slot.

sanctuary for 1pt uber smiter?

[:1]wouldnt be doing anything else with him except ubers. have runes and a couple shields Im trying to get 3 sockets out of, but before i bother I wanted to know if that would be sufficient for ubers or if I need hoz.

have:

grief, fortitude, dracs, string, raven, bk, guillaume's, gores,

have no ammy and about enough to either get a mara and make sanctuary,

or buy hoz and metalgrid

thoughts?|||Sanctuary is more than sufficient, in fact it has more res than HoZ. You lose a bit of Smite damage but seeing as you have Grief it's no biggie.

Mara's +2 isn't gonna do that much for you, so you could go Metalgrid for the additional AR when you Zeal. Since you only need stacked light res Highlord's is another option that will really get your Zeal damage up.|||i already have a highlords, and since he is borrowing almost everything else from my barb he may as well borrow his highlords. deadly strike work with smite?|||sanctuary is no 1 pt wonder. just tried it with an untwinked hdin running through durance in nm. the lvl 2 aura was useless, as the radius was way too low|||^He asked about the runeword shield. In any case, the skill is damn useful as a 1 pt wonder against undead PIs.

Nope, DS doesn't work with Smite (which is why I mentioned Zeal specifically)|||Does sanctuary apply to magic damage as well, or just physical? I'm guessing it won't affect blessed hammer.|||Quote:

should have wondered why all the posts before were regarding shields :-P

thats what u get for posting after just getting home from a club.

however, i dont think the skill is very effective on low levels. but that might be personal preference (i was using it to get rid of the undead dolls, that swarmed me)|||that was fairly confusing for a moment

with say 100-110 resist from runeword shield and grief, fortitude, dracs, string, raven, bk, guillaume's, gores, and highlords

should I Um the guillaume's or will I be fine on resists with some resist charms?|||i always make resists my priority, survivability is everything ive done ubers with a 4pdiamond sacred targe before that had base 44@ this gave me 120 resist :O

so you could always do that if you struggling for runes like i ususally do lol, then remove them later to make something else, lets say also you have 30 resists from anya quests and the fort gives you 20, (probably more) this still gives you 170 @ and highlords for 200 light resist, that should be plenty resist if you went with that, and as for sanctuary dont put points in, just have an azurewrath on switch , wastes PI's with ease |||Quote:

Hoz Suck, and it's boring. I use sanctuary. Because of the extra resist it gives:

1) I am running uber torch-less

2) Using Ninga for all 6 ubers. Most people would change to Chain on Honor when fighting uber 3 for the extra resist, but I don't because sanctuary covers for it.

3) I don't need Mara or Metagrid to give extra resist, so instead, I use Highlord to get extra IAS.

FYI, I use:

Last Wish

Nigma

CoA + Up 2x Ber

HighLord

7 LL Rare Ring

Raven Frost

Sanctuary

Rare 20IAS 3LL Glove

Gore Rider

Anni

No Torch

Some Random charms.

CTA

When I fight uber 3, I just run in and fight all 3 at the same time. Kill all 3 and pick up torch well under 2mins. Sometimes it only takes about 60 secs.

Zealot wepon question

[:1]Hello every1, Generally I wonder about my wepon, BOTD or GRIEF?

I am fana zealot, for pvm (uber task I do with different eq)

and my pvm eq goes:

Forty AP

Phoenix shield

HL

coa

botd

gore riders

LoH

verdungo

bk/raven

The only thing i care about now is killing spree.

Grief will give me 10% additional hit chance in the throne but what about the dmg?

Is grief has higher dmg altough its write nothing in the "Character" menu?|||The +340-400 damage (varies) on Grief is not shown on the character screen.

Grief's damage wins hands down. Phoenix is not worth the attack interruption IMO, but to each his own.|||Grief pb would be your best option for a fanat zealot.|||I can tell you from my personall experience that Grief PB is much better than BotD. I made both runewords and Grief is at least 15-20% superior to BotD.|||ok tnx guys, I think ill go for the grief

Hammerdins....are you serious?

[:1]Been playing diablo 2 since it came out...stopped for several years but played every main char type except a hammerdin. With the new ladder I wanted to play something new (skelemancers are too slow for my blood) and I made a hammerdin. Just got to level and 60 and...

are you kidding? Never had a non-twinked char this ridiculously powerful before.

Its kinda awesome....but rather insane.

My gear is Lore, spirit sword, rhyme bone shield, +1 pally ammy, skins of vipermagi, rare MF 30% frw boots, 25% mf gloves, manald heal, rare ring and belt.

And i was cleaning up...then I put an insight bec-de-corbin on my merc...and tis just dumb...now I never run out of mana.

No real point to this other than now i realize the power of the hammerdin...its stupid powerful.|||Yes, you can safely say it is the most powerful untwinked character the game. Even fully twinked few characters can get close, maybe a lightning sorc..|||it's powerful but personally i hate playing it because all u have to do is tele on monster and cast hammer. bring me a bit of challenge pls!|||At least lightning sorcs and javas have a weakness - respectively their low health&recovery frames and slow teleportation - in exchange for massive damage output. Hammerdins just seem to have no shortcoming.|||Quote:

bring me a bit of challenge pls!

play one w/o teleport.|||Quote:

play one w/o teleport.

I still don't think that qualifies.|||he said a bit of a challenge and i for one find it a bit more challenging to aim a hammer than when i just teleport on top of something and spam... a bit more, just a bit.|||on p8 games hammerdins have a bit hard time telestomping large groups, especially if you are using a spirit palashield. The slow block speed will get you locked and gibbed quite quickly. This is fixed by Herald of Zakarum tho.|||Actually, with HS active both Spirit and HoZ block at 2 frames. Yep. :/

I had one for a while and (even though he was my best char while I was poor) I found the play incredibly boring so quickly abandoned him.|||I did not know that. I was certain that HS only added block CHANCE and gave def.

Up HoZ / GoreRider

Holy Shield bug?

[:1]http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/577/hsblock.jpg/

I am only getting 5% chance to block no matter what.... the shield I'm using is 75% chance to block and my holy shield is currently level 5. The chance to block never increased from level 1 to level 5... wtf|||Your dexterity is so low that your chance to block will pretty much remain 5% no matter what you do. Raise your dexterity.|||shouldnt the bonus + block still apply from holy shield?|||Quote:

shouldnt the bonus + block still apply from holy shield?

It does.

This is the blocking formula:

Total Blocking = (blocking * (dex - 15)) / (cLvl * 2)

You need more dex.

How to improve this 'weird' Zealot build?

[:1]First off, it's a non-ladder character now, so stuff like Grief is only an option if I could trade for it . . . and I haven't been playing long enough to accumulate stuff to trade with.

In any case . . . it's a lvl 75 Paladin, max Fanaticism and lvl 11 Holy Shield:

Weapon: The Redeemer (+2 to skills, -1/3 target defense)

Shield: 4s Royal Shield (175 def, +81 L/C/P, +121 F)

Helm: Sigon's (+600 to base AR!)

Amulet: Mahim-Oak Curio (also have Nokozan and a magic ammy with +30 resist all)

Armor: Duriel's Shell (cannot be frozen)

Rings: Two rare rings:

(1) +118 AR/3% leech/+7 replenish life/+6 P resist/9% MF

(2) +36 AR/5% lvl 3 chain lightning on attack/+27 P resist

Belt: Sigon's (10% life leech)

Gloves: IK

Boots: IK

Combined with a bunch of charms with resistance and life (no AR/dmg), I have about 800 life, average 1900 base dmg (before Hell phys resist penalties; LCS says ~1500), and have 75% resist all on Hell; I've got an AR of about 5500 and, with Holy Shield, defense of ~4200 with 75% block. I'm just starting to go through Hell, and about the only problem I have right now is with PI/lightning enchanted (no leech), although I haven't gotten to Andy and her poison attacks yet.

[My merc is a Holy Freeze merc w/unique Bec-de-Corbin (prevent monster heal), rare armor w/400 def and 75% reduced poison, and a rare coronet(!) with +19 resist all. He's got 75% fire resist/56% other resist on Hell. On NM he can kill Shenk by himself in about three jabs.]

The big problem is the glaring lack of Crushing Blow. I have Venom Grip and Goblin Toe (combined 30% CB), but then I'd have to give up the IAS and life from the IK items. Or if I had Guillaume's Face (I don't yet), I could use that with Wilhelm's Pride to make up some of the life leech from Sigon's, but I'd lose the big AR bonus, etc.

So . . . other than "start over" , what advice can you give? In particular:

(1) Where should I look for Crushing Blow?

(2) I haven't used any of my socket rewards; should I use one on The Redeemer, and, if so, what should I socket it with?|||Well first of all i think that boots and gloves are total failure. Throw them away or mule them whatever you want but wear them off. For boots i recomend Gore's and for gloves Dracul's or LoH. I presume you don't have runes for Exile rw so i recomend Dracul's gloves. Life tap and LL will hold you in every tough situation. As far as i know paladins usually have at least 1200-1300 life and you only have 800. That's really low.

Sigon's belt is also bad pick here. I think that within 10 Meph runs you'll find something better. Verdungo's would be my pick. 15% DR and +100 to life enough for me.|||I guess that some items are too expensive for you atm.

Amon Ra adviced you best option, but you can improve your character for 1 Pul.

1. Shael your redemeer.

2. Buy random Raven frost (second LL ring)

3. Makee Lionheart armor.

4. Buy Guil Face (most expensive)

5. Use Nos belt, Dungo, String of Ears or IK belt.

It is still far from perfect but I think much better. All these items should not cost more then 10-20 PGs = 1-2 Puls.

Of course you need more life. 800 is minimum for sorceress, not for pala or other melee character.|||Quote:

As I said in the beginning, FWIW, I haven't been playing that long, so the stuff I've mentioned is the best I've been able to find (except The Redeemer, which was a gift).|||Quote:

Sadly, I have Hels and Fals for Lionheart, but have yet to come across a single Lum.

That said, I am a complete newbie when it comes to trading for stuff, but I do have two Puls (one I found, and one I got for trading a bunch of worthless jewels). How would I go about turning those into some of the items above?|||IMO first Pul should go for Guil Face and Dracul's. Maybe you'll need to toss in some pgems or low runes to get both of them but you'll make it.

Than i would get Verdungo's belt. Other items are very easy to get/made and this will improve your character for at least 50%

I think you are spending too much stat points on strenght to wear your equipment so my advice is to get this 3 items and than respec your skill/stat points at Akara. Put only much you need to wear/use in strenght and dexterity and everything else in vitality.|||I do not know realm. In Europe Draculs are Mal-Ist. Anyway this glowes are great - life tap is veeeeeery helpful.

Guil is Pul, Lum 2-3 PGs (or rum few times NM countess and high council in Tranvical).

If you can trade Lem + Ko for gems, make Lawnbringer for A5 merc. It helps you with phisic immunes.

I agree with all what Amon Ra has written. I only choose anther belt. If you have no Dracs String (1-3 PGs) or Nosferatu (up to Pul) give you LL. Moreover Nos gives you 15 str = 45 life and of course IAS. Another useful and cheap belt is Credendum.

Question for all fana zealots

[:1]Hello every1 again, so I got my grief and dmg as awsome.

But on physical immunes I cant dmg.

So not I wondering what are u do against physical immunes?

I mean I wanna kill them fast, I found out only vengeance skill isnt effective enough.

So what wepon to use against pi? Azurwrath? What aura to use? Holy shock?|||One-point Santuary will sort out the majority of them (since most are undead). Other than that, Reaper's Toll on your merc or Vengeance are the best options.|||I think the best option is 1 pt in Sanctuary. Decerep will turn off Life tap and Life tap will turn off Decrep and that's little messy. Vengence works good with Conviction but you are fana zealot so... go on Sanctuary|||The problem isnt undead, I wanna slay down the Demons from world stones keep :P

So sanctuarry wont really help me.

My merc already have infinity wepon so other res wont take effect.

Just need to create high elemental dmg myself, for my bad luck is that grief + vengeance doesnt really works. I had 18 veangeance and it was slow to death...

Im thinking abouts using azurwarth+vengeance+holy shock, any ideas?|||As you mentioned, Vengeance does not work with Grief. The +damage from the runeword doesn't get converted to elemental damage for whatever reason.

If you have an Infinity on your merc, your best best bet is to use an elemental damage on switch. Azurewrath, Gimmershred, Baranar's Star, etc.

However, I think a Reaper's Toll on your merc would be more useful overall for you. Conviction doesn't do much for a Fanatic Zealot and ctc Decrepify will break most PIs.|||Tnx guys for replies.

Well I got my azurwrath and with lvl ~12 holy shock aura I kill pi fast with a zeal attack (the speed just worth it).|||You can do one of two things:

1) Pure physical

Just put Reaper's on your merc and you will be pwning PIs as well.

2) Hybrid

Combine Grief and 2xDream and keep the Infinity on the merc. With this build you can change the 20 pts in Blessed Aim for 20 pts in Resist Lightning as you do not need the AR boost when your merc is wielding Infinity.

Question about hammer dmg

[:1]I'm thinking in buying a new amulet with +skills and around 100 life only, as I've already reached the 125 FCR bp, and I've a question:

Do you think I would do more dmg as a hammer with a +3 pc or with a +2 pala amu?

This is: lvl 36 hammer & lvl 36 conc VS lvl 37 hammer & lvl 34 conc

Thanks.|||I could give the you answer... or you could do it yourself |||Quote:

I could give the you answer... or you could do it yourself

Thank you, this is very useful to me.

ed automod on Paladin Shields: which build?

[:1]I recently got a beautiful 65% ed, 115 ar 4os sacred rondache and I want to build something around it.

Thing is, I don't really have a clue: what runeword to push in the base shield (spirit, phoenix, exile?) and what build to make for it.

Any help?|||A melee build seems like the obvious choice I guess. That being said, it's kind of a waste to put exile in a non-eth bugged shield so I'm at a loss.

Make a spirit and play an avenger I guess? They can benefit from spirit's mods (FHR, +2 skills, +vit, +mana) and also from the AR.

This shield poses an interesting challenge. How to maximize it's efficiency?

Another alternative would be a zealot using phoenix for the massive %ed but I hear the firestorm proc screws up your zeals, so I'm not sure.|||Vengeance is a nice idea, but after searching a bit i found this guide ---> http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=517192 which says that offweapon %ed doesn't work with vengeance.

Phoenix seems like a good way to go. However something is itching me to go with spirit :P

Maybe a hammerdin/something hybrid?|||So i decided to go with full hammerdin and charge on switch, due to the vigor synergy. My question is: since I don't want to lose my CTA switch, would a high damage one-handed weapon (so that i can use my 65% ed shield), probably an ettin axe with CTA, be any good?
