Best way to hit last IAS BP with a Zealadin

Hi guys, the weapon speed calculator says that I need 83% IAS to reach the last break point on my zeal pally.

He's using a eDeath Ettin Axe (yeah I know, pretty slow) Couldn't get my hands on a eZerker.

Anyway, right now I have a total of 40% IAS with 20% from Andy's Helm, and 20% from LoH. So that leaves 43% more.

I was thinking of socketing the Andy's helm with a 15%ias/resist jewel, and maybe wearing Nosferatus coil or something for that extra 10%.

Now, is there any other way I could get that last 20% without using a Highlords? 'Death' already gives me a good amount of Deadly Strike, so I feel like using a Highlords would be redundant. Is that my only option though? All help is appreciated.|||Mathematically, there are no diminishing returns from increasing Deadly Strike. So, until you have 100% Deadly Strike, you don't have enough Deadly Strike.

Between Death (~45%), Highlord (~33%), and Gorerider (15%), you'd be pretty freaking close to the magic number, and there's no way to push your %DS that high without the Highlord. As such, I don't think there's a better option for PvM. (I don't know enough about Melee PvP to comment on it, so I'll assume your Zealot is PvM)

As for hitting your IAS breakpoint:

20% from Highlord is essentially free

35% from Andariel is pretty painless

20% from LoH is good as long as you're not ubering (in which case you'd want Dracs or 10% CB Blood Gloves depending on your other gear, but those Bloods should have 20% IAS so you're still in business)

10% from Nosferatu hurts: Thundergod, String of Ears and Verdungo have better mods, and even FHR/stat/resist rares would be better here

So now, the question is: what armor and shield are you using? If you're currently using Unique or Set gear, just throw an IAS jewel in there. If your current armor is CoH or Fortitude and your current shield is Exile, you are indeed facing a conundrum.

In that case, I would recommend either:

A. The above gear, since you have it, or

B. Switching to HoZ with a 15% IAS jewel; Better than Exile for general PvM, worse for Ubering and PvP

Other options:

- switching to Death Gloves+Belt or Sigon Gloves+Boot/Belt would sacrifice too many worthwhile mods to be optimal (although they would earn many style points)

- eking the last 10% IAS available from the Helm slot would just cost too much for me to recommend to anyone, although it would be the strongest option|||Are you a conviction zeal paladin or a fanaticism zeal paladin? Perhaps you can put Faith on a mercenary to have it run Fanaticism for you?|||LordC pretty much nailed it. The only option I think he didn't touch on is:

Treachery

3 Socket Body Armor

Shael + Thul + Lem

5% Chance To Cast Level 15 Fade When Struck

25% Chance To Cast level 15 Venom On Striking

+2 To Assassin Skills

+45% Increased Attack Speed

+20% Faster Hit Recovery

Cold Resist +30%

50% Extra Gold From Monsters

Not a great armor for overall defense, but it solves a bunch of IAS problems. The free Fade proc with it's +60% resist all and 15% physical resists is a sweet bonus. It's cheap enough anyone can roll one and experiment. If it doesn't work then just clear the sockets and the highest rune you're out is only a Lem.|||He's wearing a PDiamond HoZ and a Duress, I'm also iffy about nosferatu's, such a ****ty belt. SoE is serving me a lot better imo.

Thx for the Deadly Strike advice, now I have to try to buy one since Ive never been able to find it. It's a PvM Fanaticism Zealot on single player, so ubers arent an issue since i think you have to be on bnet to trigger that event?|||I would go for:

HLW + LoH + CoH + HoZ (IAS + choice mod) + Andy's (IAS + choice mod).

This wil give you:

90% IAS

FR: 135%

LR: 150%

CR: 115%

PR: 185%

+65 Strength

+7 skills (+9 combat skills)

Pretty neat I'd say.

And yes: ubers are bnet only.|||@Frost - The only problem with Treachery's the lack of defense and resists that my Pally desperately needs. It would be great for solving the IAS problem though... Hmmmmm

@seven - The CoH really glues that together as far as resists go... sadly I can't afford one right now and the one I built recently went to my Javazon. I guess I could re-socket the PDiamond in the HoZ, not like it's a huge loss =P|||Quote:

Are you including the Fantaticism in your 83% IAS needed?

I understand that on paper Treachery doesn't look near as shiny. Until you've actually played around with it it's hard to get a grasp on how effective it really is. Like I said though, it's cheap enough you can try it out without losing any wealth. If your main concerns are resistances and defense you might be worrying about nothing. If you compare Treachery to Chains of Honor you might be shocked to see how close they really are.

Defense - CoH will have 70% more enhanced defense than Treachery

Resists - CoH's 65 res all vs. Treachery's 60 res all *

Damage reduced - CoH 8% vs. Treachery's 15% *

* Once Fade procs.

All you have to do to proc Fade is go fight something before you cast Holy Shield. Once it procs then cast Holy Shield and forget about it. The duration is over 4 1/2 minutes so unless you're standing in town it should never run out. Or you can go stand in fire to proc it, whatever works.

Assume we have a level 88 Paladin with the following gear:

Death Ettin Axe

Chains of Honor Archon Plate (524 base defense)

HoZ with P Diamond

Andy's with 15/15 jewel

Laying Of Hands

String Of Ears

Gore Riders

BK

Ravenfrost

Highlord's

Defense with level 15 Holy Shield 12,144

Hell Baal's chance to hit you is 47.4%

Out of 100 attacks he will hit you 11.85 times (you block 35.7 attacks)

49 Fire res

79 Cold res

114 Lightning res

149 Poison res

Total IAS without Fanaticism = 75%

Using the same parameters as above except swapping to a 524 defense Treachery with Fade proc'd:

Defense with level 13 Holy Shield 9,464

Hell Baal's chance to hit you is 54%

Out of 100 attacks he will hit you 13.5 times (you block 40.5 attacks)

44 Fire res

74 Cold res

109 Lightning res

144 Poison res

Total IAS without Fanaticism = 120%

As you can see Treachery's lower defense isn't really that crippling (Hell Baal will only hit you 1.65 more times out of 100 attacks) and it opens up far more gear options by supplying the high IAS.

Here's the IAS table for a Zeal pally with a 10 speed weapon that shows IAS needed, attacks per minute, and damage output increase per breakpoint:

0% 117 0.0%

2% 127 8.5%

6% 129 1.7%

11% 141 9.4%

20% 144 1.9%

29% 159 10.6%

42% 163 2.2%

58% 182 12.2%

83% 187 2.5%

120% 214 14.3%

194% 220 2.9%|||Quote:

1. Defense isn't incredibly important if you have max block (which you should)

2. Treachery would solve your resist problem... Level 15 Fade = 60 resists + 15% DR. If you're concerned about dying before the Fade procs, or worried about the Fade wearing off in the middle of a monster pack... well, just try it. Once you embrace Treachery, you'll never go back.

At least until you get Fortitude. It's just silly.

I'd just IAS jewel the HoZ for a short term fix, though.

Long term, I don't know; you should be able to kill pretty much everything at an absurd rate of speed as it is. Swapping into a Fort would make you kill even faster; Dual Dreams + respec into Conviction mode would increase your versatility and killing speed too.|||Don't forget that you don't actually have to wear Treachery. You can easily let Fade trigger and then put on some sexy rare armor (or one of the uniques) fitted with an IAS jewel instead. You could then give the Treachery to your merc as the 45% IAS will likely make him reach the next bp to!
